rudding park golf course

repton short course factfile

Opening date: Tuesday 15 April 2008

Number of holes: 6

Par: 3

Approximate play time: 1 hour

Hole lengths:

  1. Wentworth – 139 yards
  2. Augusta – 99 yards
  3. Sunningdale – 71 yards
  4. St Andrews – 92 yards
  5. Sawgrass – 137 yards
  6. Carnoustie – 122 yards

Hole descriptions:

  1. Wentworth – as two mature oak trees guard either approach to the green, it is necessary to draw or fade the ball when the pin is cut to the edge to have a chance of a birdie.
  2. Augusta – entirely surrounded by trees, this plateau green looks inviting, but it is necessary to hit it as the ground runs away severely at either side and at the back.
  3. Sunningdale – a woodland hole surrounded by mature trees, it looks a seemingly simple ‘flick’, however there is a ridge running through the middle of the green that you will need to be on the correct side of to have any chance of a birdie.
  4. St Andrews – with the stream guarding the front and right of the green and bunkers to the left, hitting the green is a priority.
  5. Sawgrass – the signature hole of the course, modelled on the notorious 17th at Sawgrass, Florida, with an island green in the middle of the lake. The prevailing wind is even from the same direction (behind and right!). Even from the front tee it is a brave golf shot to carry the water to the safety of the green.
  6. Carnoustie – this hole is deceptively long, uphill and into the prevailing wind, with the stream running at the front and left. The green runs right up to the sleeper wall to the stream and bunkers await those who ‘bale out’ to the right.
