Competition Results
The August medal took place a week later than usual on Saturday 14th August. The course had recovered from greens week, and scores were close in Division 1 with Tony Slinger coming third with a nett 70, one shot behind Greg Archer who lost out on count back to Tom Lee who had a nett 69. In Division 2 there were some excellent scores, with all five of the days two’s being scored by players in Division 2. Shane McLeer scored a nett 68 to come in third place, two shots ahead was Nick Procter with a nett 66 but he couldn't catch Lewis Gladstone-Buchan who had the best score of the day with a nett 65.
On an unexpectedly fine day the ladies enjoyed good conditions for their August EWGA medal, and an overall strong performance meant a reduction in CSS to 73. Continuing her excellent run of form was Sue Stuart Brown who came in 3rd place with a nett 74. In second place was Bernie Babington with a nett 73, but taking the top spot this week was Steph Davies with a nett 72 earning a handicap reduction down to 11. Stephanie also had the lowest gross score (84). Sue Severn continued her good form and won the Catterick Mixed Seniors Open paired with her husband Art Severn with a great score of 46 points.
Wednesday 18 August saw the Rudding Salver take place in some fine conditions which brought a good scoring day. The only two of the day went to Lawrence Poulter on the 14th hole. Coming in third with a nett 70 was Stewart Carr who pipped Dave Spenley on count back, second with a nett 69 was James Babington who goes top of the 2010 order of merit, two shots ahead was the Rudding Salver winner Richard Sowerby who had a nett 67.
A competition filled week was rounded off with the August Stableford on Sunday 22 August. A very close competition took place in both divisions with Division 1 having two points separated the top five places. In third place with 39 points was Lawrence Poulter who lost out on count back to Liam Wharldall who continues to climb the order of merit but couldn't catch Lady Captain, Hazel Spinlove, who had a best of the day with 40 points. In Division 2 only a few points covered the top six but in third with 37 points was Rob Pryde just a point behind second placed John Lyndall who had 38 points. Winning Division 2 with 39 points was Paul Westerman, there were eleven two’s in all and they were all recorded by players in Division 1.
